Project Summary
This was made for a game jam! The game jam itself was two weeks long, but I joined mid-way, building the full game within one week. It was good practice on scoping, time management, and project management.
I made sure to keep a small scope, so that I can finish it on-time and add polish on top. Thus, I chose to make a falling object game, adding the "pest" mechanic (when a "pest" falls onto the deer, the score of the player decreases regularly, unless the player shakes the "pest" off) as a small twist.
Roles
As another solo-developed project, I built it from start-to-finish, creating all the art assets, the music, the scripts, and the UI/UX.
Goals
Players need to be able to adjust game settings and understand gameplay. The theme of the game must fulfill the theme of the game jam, which is "Spring."
The game should work well as a WebGL game.
For the art assets, I chose to use the optional color palette provided by the game jam.

Design Process
Main Menu
The main menu is very minimalistic, and exists so that players don’t have to start the game immediately
• Pressing any key will start the game

Game Instructions
Starts with instructions (which can be skipped next time)
• First page shows three panels that depict the three types of falling objects (easily digestible information so that the game can be played as soon as possible)
• Second page shows the keys that can be used to control the deer character
The instructions are shown visually, so that the player doesn’t have to read too much; the player can also choose whether it should show again, during the next playthrough.

• Heart shape (symbol for health), decreases until empty

Pop-up text
Different colors of the pop-up text represents different changes that happen during the game
• Dark purple: the point-value increase of each flower caught
• Red: the health decrement of each tree branch caught
• Green: the point-value decrease for each second a pest stays on the deer antlers

Flower Shower gameplay
Pause Menu
Because most of the game is operated with a keyboard, the pause menu is accessible via the key "q."
Volume sliders to adjust the sounds
Options to toggle the instructions at the beginning of each game
Quit and resume buttons

End Screen
The end screen aims to make the player feel accomplished
• The final score is displayed large, digit-by-digit
• The player can then choose to play again or stop playing
